Re-Elect DuPage County Board Member
Sadia Covert
Democratic Primary Election Day: March 17, 2026
EXPERIENCED AND QUALIFIED DEMOCRAT INCUMBENT WHO GETS THE JOB DONE

Picture
Hi! I'm your DuPage County Board Representative! It has been an honor to serve you and your families since 2018 on the DuPage County Board. I look forward to continuing to serve you, and I am asking for your vote for my 3rd term on March 17, 2025. I will always defend the right to choose, stand with our DuPage County unions, fight for better County resources to address food insecurity, and vote as a proud Democrat. I am an Attorney with my own firm, a wife, and a mom of three beautiful children who lives in Naperville and your current County Board Member.

WHY AM I RUNNING FOR A 3RD TERM?
Under the Trump Administration, there have been cuts to federal funding of many social programs. This affects so many people in our county.  This is a critical time, and we need a qualified board member with the experience to tackle these problems and to get the proper funding and solutions to these issues. I have been on the board for the last 7 years (will be 8 years by 2026) and have served you through the COVID-19 pandemic, a time where families and businesses were facing economic hardship. I supported small businesses with grants so they could stay open, supported free Covid vaccines to our residents, and found new revenue streams for the county without asking for more taxpayer dollars. Today, we are in surplus with our budget!

I am currently working on 4 important issues:
  • Food Insecurity: During the record-breaking government shutdown, SNAP recipients had to utilize many local resources such as food pantries to feed their families. We have learned that we cannot rely on the Trump Administration to fight for food security, so we have to continue working on sustainable solutions to the problem. I have always supported the funding of food pantries throughout the county and have allocated member initiative funds to Loaves and Fishes right here in Naperville. Sustainability is important, so it is important to partner up with organizations that grow fresh produce to donate to food pantries on a consistent basis. In the winter time, I would like explore options of indoor gardening and/or hydroponic plants.
  • Mental Health: We just opened up our new Crisis Recovery Center in DuPage to help people with mental health and substance abuse get the help they need. This center alleviates the pressure on hospital emergency rooms and jails. I am proud to support this and am working on exploring more options of investments, grants, and partnerships for our new CRC.
  • Accessible Housing: With expenses rising, it is becoming more difficult for middle class families and new graduates to afford buying a home. Many often live with their parents or extended family members before they can even afford to buy a home. As a county, we are currently working on exploring avenues to make housing more accessible and affordable for DuPage families such as allowing accessible dwelling units, helping first-time homebuyers with down payment, and more. As an attorney, I used to practice foreclosure defense when we were hit be a recession around 2010 and I used to help families save their homes from going into foreclosure by negotiating for home loan modifications or seeking other alternatives to avoid a foreclosure on my clients' credit reports. My clients did not even know that HOAs had the ability to foreclose on their homes for unpaid HOA fees! That is too much power over homeowners. Now, the housing sector is getting worse and there is a middle gap we need to fill. There should be no reason why middle class families and new graduates are unable to buy a home and start a family. We need to keep working towards solutions.
  • Pet Homelessness: I am an advocate for our furry and feathery friends at Animal Services here at DuPage. As a result of rising cost of living for DuPage residents, many pets are ending up in our animal shelter because owners cannot afford to keep them anymore. I supported expanding the space for Animal services to accommodate more animals and provided funds out of the Member Initiative Program to help. I support the galas, speak up against puppy mills, and even supported the ban on using animals in circuses here in DuPage early on when I first got elected to DuPage County Board in 2018. I look forward to collaborating with our state legislators to protect our pets and animals and to provide some relief to pet owners.

How I have served our community in the last 7 years:
  • Initiated the passing of the Diversity and Inclusion imperative to be included in our County's strategic goals
  • As Chair of the Complete Count Committee for 2020 Census, I achieved one of the highest response rates out of all the counties
  • As Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, I developed programs to promote economic growth for minorities, women, veterans, and small businesses.
  • Initiated and passed closed captioning for the hearing impaired to ensure ADA compliance
  • Supported our restaurants, hotels, and small businesses during Pandemic.
  • Supported Responsible Bidding Ordinance to ensure high quality workmanship in areas of construction, engineering, and other services.
  • Supported collective bargaining negotiations to ensure proper and fair pay for our county employees
  • Only DuPage County Board Democrat to have passed 3 ordinances/resolutions my first year in office (closed captioning for the hearing impaired, Complete Count Committee creation, Diversity and Inclusion imperative).
  • Supported Organizations such as Just DuPage, DuPage Foundation, Choose DuPage, and many others doing great work in the community.
  • Initiated allowing recreational cannabis facilities to open up in DuPage thereby creating a new stream of tax revenue to the county (with proper limitations for safety of residents)
  • Supported expansion of services and facility for Animal services to alleviate pet homelessness and will be working with state to find ways to make pet ownership more affordable. Also, provided member initiative funds to Animal Services for programs.
  • Supported the banning of animals used in circuses in DuPage (see article "In the News" tab)
  • Supported increase in wages for our county employees
  • Won a national award for the Strategic Planning Committee I chaired from 2019-2024 by the National Association of Counties.
