About

Hi! My name is Sadia Covert ( I am the woman in the Blue dress with the white polka dots holding the baby!) and I am your Democrat DuPage County Board member since 2018. I am an attorney, a wife, and a mom of 3 beautiful children who live in Naperville. It has been an honor to serve you through both good times and challenging times. We all have been through a lot but despite our challenges, we are still in the surplus financially at the county. What does that mean? It means that we have extra funds in our budget (through sales tax, cannabis tax, and levies, etc) to take care of our residents in DuPage through our social service programs.

County Board is a fiscal board that manages about a half billion dollar budget. We are not a taxing body, so we have to work with the funds we have. My work since 2018 has focused on bringing in more revenue, saving taxpayer dollars, and using the funds that we have to help where we can. Here are some of the ways I helped in bringing in new streams of revenue:

-  I worked together with my colleagues to introduce an initiative that allowed recreational cannabis facilities to open up in our county (of course with restrictions and limitations for safety). This was successful and it brings in millions of dollars in tax revenue every year. (Please see Daily Herald Article under the 'In the News' section)

- As the Chair of Strategic Planning Committee, I initiated the Diversity and Inclusion imperative to be included in our County's goals. This initiative not only ensured inclusion of all our county residents in all aspects of our county business, but it also tapped into newer markets and businesses of Minority owned businesses, women owned businesses, and veteran owned businesses providing them the opportunity to partner with us for contracts and services. This initiative has helped bring in more funding for DuPage County to serve its residents, in an equitable way we have not seen before.

- As Chair of the Complete Count Committee for the 2020 Census, my responsibility was to get an accurate census count by focusing on the "hard to count" and underrepresented populations (refugees, immigrants, homeless, etc). Through our successful 34-member committee, we achieved a high response rate helping to bring in more revenue and resources to our county.

I want to make sure that we are fiscally responsible with your taxpayer dollars and that the county provides the services needed to improve all residents' outcomes. Under our Democrat-led County Board, we have a surplus of funds that can be used for food insecurity, housing crises, and mental health support. Before I was in elected office, I co-wrote a bill to amend the Illinois Hate Crime Law, which passed unanimously in Springfield. I have always cared about these issues, I always will, and I always get the job done.
